So, it’s been a while Substack. I think I last posted back in March but I’ve been absorbed in a project that I am finally now able to make public and hopefully invite you to share the journey with me as it unfolds over the next few months. Some of you may remember that back in the day I taught in this building on King Street, Norwich. It was a wonderful creative space that Andy Gibbs, an architect started in Netherconsford. I always thought, Wow this would make such a great yoga studio!
Of course, I did go on to open a yoga studio, The Yoga Room. First in St Mary’s Works and then in the little annexe next to John Lewis' in what used to be part of the Buddhist Centre. It was such a sweet little place but sadly, due to complications with the lease and my circumstances, I decided to close it.
So, now, nearly 20 years on I am opening the Yoga Room Mk 3. which will be housed in what used to be the NewMu Cafe/Gallery. Andy had a great vision for the spaces here, he wanted to bring all kinds of creative practices together and for the gallery to be a community hub. So, I’ve been inspired by that and out of the dust of NewMu Yantra Studio is born!
Why Yantra?
The Sri Yantra is a sacred symbol, believed to align one's consciousness with the cosmic order and facilitate spiritual growth and enlightenment. It is considered a powerful tool for meditation, concentration, and manifestation of desires.
Yantra will be a beautiful and transformative space offering not just yoga but other movement practices such as Barre, Pilates and Shake the Dust I’ve assembled a team of AMAZING teachers who I know you will love practising with. I plan to offer teachers CPDs and a unique in-studio apprenticeship/mentoring programme for newly-qualified yoga teachers to gain experience and develop their teaching practice. Due to an overcrowded market in foundation yoga teacher training, I’ve decided not to offer a 200 hour course.
I’ve also got some fantastic guest teachers lined up for workshops in 2025 including; esteemed Yin expert Norman Blair, Katerina Rayburn of Kindred Studio, London, Claire Missingham and of course my long time friend and collaborator Hayley Winter, bringing the Yoga Sports Science Sequencing Playbook to Norwich!
I’ve spent the last 8 months, researching, planning, and despairing (as finding the perfect venue was very challenging) but, finally, the right thing happened at the right time and my dream of one day having a studio in Andy’s beautiful building has come true. We have some wonderful neighbours, the very talented branding genius Bobby Burrage & his company the Click and a host of other creative businesses in the co-working space Studio Inn just upstairs. I can’t wait to share coffee and chat in the beautiful courtyard space outside.
We have a lot of work to do to make it ready for you but, I hope to launch on the weekend of 7/8th September 2024, with a whole programme of free classes, talks, exciting collaborations with local businesses and a glorious Gongbath with Emrys Skye.
Socials, a new website and a booking system are going live in the next month so please watch out on my Instagram and Facebook for the changeover. There will be special offers and a great competition/giveaway which I will be launching at the Norwich Yoga Festival (more below). So, stay tuned!
